We left Cooke City and where pleased to discover that the mama moose had her baby in view this morning. We watched them for about a half hour and finally she moved him back into the brush where he could not be seen. Image

This was a day of slight frustration, but lets face it anyday in Yellowstone is wonderful. Lets just call it bad timing. On 3 different occasions we were minutes late for bear sightings. We missed a grizzly at Grizzly Lake by a minute....then we caught a glimpse of a couple grizzlies up on Dunraven Pass but before we could find a place to park they were gone, and then we missed a black bear down in Little America. It had JUST gone over the hill when we pulled up.

I got to watch some baby bighorns playing on the cliffs overlooking the Calcite Springs area though. Its amazing the horseplace that goes on in such a treacherous turain. Image

Then three of them got together it was obvious they were up to no good. One ewe even wandered away and layed with her back to them as if to say I DONT WANT TO WATCH!

On our way through Mammoth today we did finally get to see the owls. Mama didnt look like she really enjoyed my company though.

While on Dunraven we spotted some bull elk way down in the valley. It was snowing enough to cause some distortion, but come fall some of these guys are going to be monsters.

We were also treated to a bighorn ram at Yellowstone Picnic area again.

And after all the just misses of the day we were finally treated to this black bear at Pebble Creek.

Looks like a fun day in the Park. I wonder if those owls think that those two legged creature have only one really large eye (Camera lenses). Glad you got to see at least the one bear. Thanks for posting!
