Trip Report July 8-12th

Postby Kevbar on Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:13 pm

We had a great summer trip to the park despite the crowds. I love going to Yellowstone in the spring and fall because of the small crowds and great animal viewing. I love summer because of the warm weather and all the daylight, we also had some awesome animal viewing. We were up and out of our tent every morning by 5:30am. My kids love early morning drives in the park. We stayed at Canyon campground and would usually hit Hayden valley right at sunrise. We had a family with us and it was their first trip to Yellowstone and they cant stop talking about it. Highlights included lots of bears, Grizzly and 3 cubs in Hayden, Grizzly and cubs on Washburn and about 10 black bears. We also had a great show with a black wolf in Hayden valley. Blacktail plateu drive once again provided us with our own private bear jam. Trout lake was full of otters and fish! Here are some pics from our journey as usual they are very amature but we do what we can. We are going again next week and we cant wait.

Great images. Thanks. I have been trying to get down Blacktail Drive for almost a year but every time I go by the road is closed.

Your pictures are awesome....I love the otter pictures and of course, the boy with the ice cream cone. Yummmm! We make it a point to reward ourselves with a scoop of wilcoxin's ice cream after our day of hikes. Even though I can get wilcoxin's ice cream here in Billings it just tastes better in Yellowstone Park and has become a tradition to have one each time we go to the park.

We hiked to Trout Lake this year but unfortunately didn't see any otters so I love seeing pictures that other people have taken of them.

It looks like you had a great trip. Thanks for taking the time post a report and share your pictures.

Great report about a family's trip....so realistic. Be sure to print several copies of the photos of your children and write the date and exact location on the back of each. One day your children will take their children, and then their grandchildren, to the same spots and take pictures. Been there, done that.

Kevbar, thanks for the nice pictures, including the lovely children. The otters with the fish is fantastic. I wanted to do the plateau drive when I was there last month, but it was closed. Perhaps next year!
