It's been awhile since we posted on Y-Net. We're a little rusty. It was once again a brief 2 1/4 days for us & it was snowy, windy, chilly & brown. Spring is just starting to emerge in Yellowstone. It was pretty slow for us but we did see a sow grizzly & her yearling cub, plenty of coyotes (hence the title), a badger, Bald Eagles & Golden Eagles, plenty of bison, (no orange babies yet), lots of elk, a pretty fox, a glimpse of an owl in our headlights, silly ravens, baby chipmunks, a Hairy Woodpecker & heard the mournful howling of 14 members of The 8 Mile Wolf Pack. We just missed a Great Gray & another grizzly. Either way it was good to be back in Yellowstone! We hope to be back in a couple of weeks. Spring is just starting to pop & we can't wait! Thanks for the report -- I really enjoyed it. Loved the griz-and-cub photo, and those eagle shots are great! Sounds like you had a productive and fun trip, even without the wolves (but howling ... wow, that's amazing all by itself!) and such. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Dorothy, Willemw & Lah! Glad you enjoyed the report! The Eagle shots were definitely the highlight! Yellowstone never ceases to amaze even when it's a little slower time. Hoping to back again soon & will try to post another Trip Report! There should be a lot more activity in the coming months! Cheers, T&K
Hey, Guys, nice to see your smiling faces again. FWIW, no shortage of coyotes in the Nye area...one of my neighbors saw one last week in her yard. Went for a walk along the River yesterday and all the regulars are back for a rest stop, before continuing their northward migration. Max and Margie (mated sandhill couple), George and Greta (mated goose couple). And the mated mallards (Marvin and Mabel) have been making a big splash in the backwater pond along with Muskrat Mike and a huge snapping turtle. The pond is across from our house. Been seeing wild turkeys prancing along the River, too.. with the coyotes in hot pursuit...no doubt, looking for an EZ turkey or goose dinner. I'm heading up to the Canyon tomorrow to see if any of the bighorns are around. Last year at this time, I got a wonderful shot of 10 full-curled older rams. Managed to get all 10 in the same frame. Talk about luck. Let me know if you're planning to be in our area any time soon...spring has sprung and all the Nye critters are out and about. Can't say that they were too crazy about the snow we had last night, though. Felt like giving our wild bunnies a nice warm sleeping bag to cuddle up in. They were freezing their little butts off. Hope to hook up with you this summer. Kept missing you at Pebble Creek when we were at Slough. We should be there again from the latter part of June until July 15th. If you get over that way, just look for our Chalet A-frame trailer. We'll treat you to a nice meal at our site.
