YNP Day 1 July 22

Postby Cougar on Tue Jul 28, 2009 11:43 am

We made a trip to show off the park to my sister who had not been for 25 years, and we complain when it is a much shorter time away from the park. Needless to say we were the guides and luckily we did not disappoint her or at least the Park did not. We saw many hawks and ospreys on the way to the park. Finally to the park we got the usual construction lesson at the entrance, one Mile, yes one Mile into the park we ran into a traffic jam. Bear, construction what? One and a half hours later we find out it was the eagle nest holding up the traffic. We did not even have to wait that long for the construction... They had taken the no stopping signs down, what a mess. We saw lots of elk along the madison. Lots of bison and geese in Hayden Valley. Not too much around the Lake but a few pelicans a long ways off. We checked in at Canyon and took a walk to the Lower Falls.

Some company along the way back from the falls.

Headed over Dunraven and then to Petrified Tree. Getting late but not too late for the Grizzly at Petrified Tree.

Oh too be back in the park.

Nice photos and trip report. Glad you could show your sister what the park still has to offer.
Retired, but still clicking away.

Same Grizzly

Postby dianavod on Wed Aug 19, 2009 5:50 pm

This is a wonderful picture. My parents, my daughter, my husband & I were in Yellowstone at the petrified tree on the same day and saw the same grizzly. He was behind the bushes while we were there so our pic is not that great. We were actually hiking the lost lake trailat the time and had to be escorted up the last part of the trail by the ranger because the bear was there. When the ranger came to escort us up he would yell out "Hey Bear", so of course this has become our "Hey Bear" story. It was our first trip to yellowstone and we simply LOVED IT. We will be making a return trip in the future. Thanks for sharing your lovely pics.
